Fundraising is a difficult subject.
There are so many worthy causes and only a limited pot of money to go around.
So inevitably many SAR teams find themselves in competition with each other, as well as all those other charities.
In these competitive times SAR teams have to try all the tricks to win their share. So out come the dogs, the flash equipment - boats, vehicles etc. and eventually the children!
And so it's over to Ryde Inshore Rescue, an independent inshore lifeboat based on the Isle of Wight.
They are raising funds for a new boathouse and have enlisted young Daniel White to help. He has chosen to do a sponsored bike ride, from Newport to Cowes at the start of the summer holidays.
Here is what he has to say about it;
Since I was born I have been helping my mummy and daddy out at this Independent lifeboat station, and now I need your help. This year we are celebrating being an independent unit and hope to raise funds to repair and restore our current building... it's a bit of a squash at the moment! To do this we need to raise around £140,000 and everyone is working very hard towards this. So I thought I'd do my bit and ask you all if you can help us.... any donation no matter how small it is would be gratefully received, so please help us... as contrary to popular belief we are not linked to the RNLI, even though we do an identical job and are a declared facility to the coastguard just like them. Even if you don't live near the sea you may come on a day trip or holiday and you never know, you may just need the Ryde Lifeboat!
In May daddy took my stabalizers off my bike and I have learnt to ride my bike very well.... mummy thinks I have done so well that she has set me the fundraising task of cycling on my little bike from Newport to Cowes at the beginning of the summer holidays, the route is approximately 3 miles each way and it will be a bonus if I can get there and back.
Please support me and mummy, daddy and Nathan will all be cycling with me to ensure that I do it and we will take photos and post them afterwards!
I think this is just fabulous and so I'm happy to publicise this on SARworld and I hope that if you can't support Daniel financially you can at least share this story with all your friends!
