SARworld is pleased to announce the winner of our photo competition.
There were a number of excellent entries covering a wide range of SAR disciplines however, Scott Lee's picture of his search dog, Lopez, pipped the others in the judges mind to win the competition and win Scott a copy of Gary Foo's Emergency Response & Search & Rescue.
Scott has been in Search & Rescue for over 6 years and has worked Lopez the entire time. Lopez is 7 years old, a Yellow Labrador and is State certified in Wilderness Airscent, Land HRD and Water recovery. As a team they have been on approximately 50 missions and are credited with 3 finds, all drowning victims.
Scott and Lopez are currently with North Oregon Regional Search and Rescue (NORSAR) which serves the greater Portland, Oregon / SW Washington State region.
Congratulations Scott.

Second place in the competition goes to Robin Blandford for this action packed picture.
The picture shows the Howth Cliff Rescue Team lowering a casualty to the waiting D-Class boat of Drogheda Coast Guard.
Standing-off is the Howth Coast Guard boat.
It is actually a training exercise Robin organised for local SAR teams set out on the Island called "Ireland's Eye" in Dublin.
The teams were transported out in boats with full technical gear, collected a 'walking casualty' who was stuck or injured from a mid-cliff position, then lowered them to the waiting boats.
Great shot Robin!

Two other pictures deserve mention;
Mike Davies sent in this great shot of the Bay Search and Rescue Team showing off their kit and Haggunds.
"The twelve strong operational team is on call weekends and evenings and is working towards 24 hours a day, 7 days per week cover to respond to 999 calls. Although independent, the team works with all the emergency services and is confident a crew could be scrambled for any call out, irrespective of time. The Bay Search and Resce Team skills, assets and facilities complements the services of the Coastguards' RIBs (rigid inflatable boats) based at Arnside and Duddon, which are used for water based rescues.
Since its inception, the team has been involved in an average of 8 operational call outs per year, including providing assistance to H.M. Coastguard during, and subsequent to, the Morecambe Bay 'cockling tragedy' in 2004. As well as search and rescue/casualty evacuations on the Bay, the team also assists local Mountain Rescue Teams in low level land and shoreline searches."

Whilst Chris Daw sent is this wonderful action shot of Simon & Search dog Merlin of SARDA South Wales.
Thank you to everyone who sent in pictures and I'm sure we'll be publishing more soon...
